Capitol to help boost hotels, resorts’ qualities

HOTELS and resorts that will be participating in the Cebu Provincial Government’s tourism program Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo will soon have their hospitality and accommodation services boosted to international quality standards.

The Province has partnered with Oyo Technology and Hospitality, the world’s second largest hotel franchising chain, to help train personnel and improve amenities of hotels and resorts in component cities and towns.

On behalf of the Provincial Government, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia had signed a memorandum of understanding on the matter with officials of Oyo led by its country head Ankit Gupta last Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019.

Earlier, Garcia had stressed the need to upgrade the local hospitality industry as Cebu continues to gain international recognition through its tourist destinations, culture and heritage.

She said tourists should be welcomed not only by pristine beaches and scenic mountainscapes, but also clean amenities to make their stay worthwhile.

The move is also in line with the Capitol’s thrust to promote countryside tourism in the province.

Under the agreement, Oyo will spearhead the upgrading of facilities of the Capitol’s partner hotels and resorts, including the training of personnel on hospitality services at no cost to the Province.

Oyo will also assist hotels in managing their operations through its management system, so that hotels and resorts from far-flung areas can put their names in the world map through online bookings and reservations.

Suroy Suroy sa Sugbo will kick off this year with the “Southern Heritage Trail” on Nov. 15-17. It will cover all towns and cities of the first, second and seventh districts.

Other trails, such as the “Northern Escapade,” “Enchanting Camotes,” “Explore Midwest” and “Urban Adventure,” will follow in 2020. (RTF)
