Firm launches its first hotel
THE country's leading weighing scale manufacturer launched its first hospitality business Blue Lotus Hotel in Davao City, Sunday, January 5, 2020.
"This is our first time to venture into the hotel business," Blue Lotus Hotel president Amparo Policarpio said at the opening ceremonies.
Policarpio is also the founder and president of First Philippine Scales Inc., manufacturer of the household weighing scale brand Fuji that has been exporting weighing scales mainly to Japan, New Zealand, and Mauritius.
She said her confidence in Davao City's security situation and business climate were their reason to invest in this type of business.
"Davao is a wonderful place. Crime is very low. People are kind and polite, many good tourist spots, and many agro-industrial businesses exporting to other countries," she said in her speech.
"Blue Lotus Hotel will help generate jobs, improve tourist capacity, increase tax payment for Davao," Policarpio added.
She said the seven-story Blue Lotus Hotel has 133 rooms equipped with smart technologies, eco-friendly amenities, and two restaurants, the Laut Palace offering food of Chinese, Malay, and Indian influences and the Skyview Restaurant with international cuisines and an overlooking view of the city, Samal Island, and Mt. Apo.
She added the hotel also has conference rooms that can accommodate around 20 to 400 persons.
Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) head April Marie Dayap said the hotel is a boost to the city's goal of becoming a meeting, incentives, conventions, and events (Mice) destination.
"It is not only [during] Kadayawan [Festival] but every time we have conventions and big gatherings, kulang kaayo atong mga rooms (we have a shortage of rooms)," she said.
