P10B spur road to Sangley eyed

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC)  plans to invest over P10 billion for the construction of a spur road that will connect the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) to Danilo Atienza (Sangley) Air Base in line with the government’s initiative to start the commercial operation of the airport there this year.

Rodrigo Franco, MPTC president, said  the company is in talks with partner Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) for the submission of a proposal to construct 8 to 9 kilometers of spur road going to Sangley Point.

Once the terms are finalized, MPTC unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. and PRA will submit the proposal to the Toll Regulatory Board. The target is to submit the offer within the year.

MPTC plans to extend the existing Cavitex, Segment 5, which is very close to Sangley.

“From there, we could easily build the spur (road)… to Sangley,” Franco said.

Cavitex’s Segment 5 is the expansion of the existing 14-kilometer toll expressway  for another 9.5 kilometers covering Marulas and Kawit to Rosario, traversing through Noveleta. This requires an  investment of P22.5 billion.

The company is seeking regulatory approval to start the project expansion.

Cavitex is part of a road network being expanded by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. the tollways arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp.
